Climbing Conditions

On May 27th, Jasper Visitor Safety took the following photos during a flight from the Columbia Icefields to the Jasper townsite. There was evidence of numerous recent avalanches that had scrubbed down to the ground throughout the region. Deep persistent layers remain in the snowpack and continue to pose a hazard to anyone venturing into the alpine. Avalanche gear is still recommended. Plan to finish your day early, and consider avoiding objectives if there hasn't been a good overnight refreeze.

The Skyline trail is still snow covered and not yet in hiking condition.
